The Marcel woven rattan armchair is also known as the grandfather chair, mainly because of its preferred occupants, elderly people, who in the past only had this type of seat to rest on in rural areas. However, one cannot help but see it as a nod to the prolific offspring it has spawned. The first of its kind in its low-back version, the Marcel woven rattan armchair quickly spawned a high-back version, also known as the “comfortable” rattan armchair, then a two-seater rattan sofa, a children's armchair, and finally a matching rattan chair. All these models became generic items manufactured by all the rattan makers in France, each with their own manufacturing variations, but all very faithful to the original design. Maison KOK is very proud to have been selling its Marcel woven rattan armchair for four generations! We have also revisited the classic woven rattan armchair design, extrapolating it into a larger, lower living room armchair with a thick cushion, adapted to the ergonomics of a truly modern living room.

The Marcel woven rattan armchair is not a garden chair

Its natural rattan frame, a solid wood that is more resistant than others but still a natural wood, is not designed to withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight or the elements. Your woven rattan armchair can occasionally be used outdoors on sunny days, preferably in the shade, but it must be brought inside every evening. A woven rattan armchair is definitely not designed to be left outside, even under cover, in winter.
