A little bit of history
It's a unique blend that KOK offers you here. A construction typical of the “coquille” rattan armchairs of the 60s, with its two interlocking circles, but equipped with a contemporary foam cushion, removable and covered with an “outdoor” fabric. Visually, the Miami maxi armchair is strangely reminiscent of the rattan love seats from Thailand that were all the rage in the 70s. Low-quality (poor-quality rattan dyed dark brown, with a Kapok cushion covered in unbleached cotton) but inexpensive, these loveuses, also known as “papasan”, were to take the old continent by storm and usher in a new approach to rattan: exotic, cheap and casual. This was, it has to be said, the beginning of the end for European rattan furniture manufacturers, who could no longer compete with low labor costs, nor could they persist in transforming a raw material that was legitimately better off in the countries where rattan grew. KOK decided to follow the trend, but refused to cut corners in terms of quality. Over 40 years' work has enabled our former suppliers of raw materials, mainly in Indonesia, to gradually become manufacturers of top-of-the-range rattan furniture. Two generations later, we are still buying from them. The Miami rattan maxi armchair you see here is the fruit of this history: an aesthetic inspired by the legend of rattan, with no concessions in terms of the quality of the materials used, or the workmanship.
