All CurvesOur Volutes vintage rattan headboard takes advantage of rattan’s unique ability to bend easily when heated. To shape the headboard’s outline, a rattan rod—which starts out straight—is heated in a very long drying oven at 120°. While still hot, it is then bent by hand over wooden or metal templates. Once cooled, the shape of the vintage rattan headboard is set permanently. For the scrollwork pattern, a different technique is used. A special type of rattan is used—thin in diameter but 15 meters long in a single piece. The rattan craftsman then, working freehand with a blowtorch, gradually bends and secures each scroll of this long rod directly into the structure of the vintage rattan headboard. Small ties are used to conceal the fastenings at the joints. Volutes, petals, arches, arabesques—all our rattan furniture is characterized by curves, which are omnipresent on the Lydie rattan nightstand, the Tambour coffee table, and our rattan wall shelf.

The Volutes Vintage Rattan Headboard in Practice

Our vintage rattan headboard is available in one size that fits beds 140 cm wide—with a small 10 cm overhang on each side—or 160 cm wide. In the latter case, the bedding will align flush with the outer edge of the headboard. The vintage rattan headboard is equipped with solid wood blocks for screwing in the optional mounting hardware. This hardware allows you to secure the headboard directly to the wall or to the bed frame. The vintage rattan headboard requires very little maintenance, as the rattan’s natural bark provides protection. Dust it with a damp cloth or a feather duster from time to time. The natural rattan bark has visual irregularities that are an integral part of the product. Knots, color variations, black marks, and small creases are all completely normal and ensure that no two headboards are ever exactly alike.
