Rattan and Volutes, an art
Our Volutes bed head exploits the specific characteristics of rattan to be able to bend easily when it is heated. For the outside edge of the bed head, a rattan rod, straight to begin with, is heated in a very long oven at 120°. Then while it is still warm and by hand, it is bent onto wooden or metal templates. Once it has cooled, it retains its new shape. For the scroll pattern, the technique is different. We use a special variety of rattan, fine in diameter, but 15 m long in one piece. The rattan craftsman then, with a skilled hand, and with a torch, comes in to bend and fix each scroll of this long stick directly into the frame. Small bindings will hide the fixings at the joins. Scrolls, petals, arcades, arabesques, all rattan furniture is marked by the curve, which you will find in the Lydie rattan bedside table, the Tambour coffee table, and our rattan wall shelf.
The Volutes bed head in practice
Our rattan headboard is available in a single size that fits beds of 140 cm with a small overhang of 10cm on each side, or 160 cm. It can be fixed to the wall or the bed base by the optional fittings.
