The Marcel woven rattan armchair is available in natural rattan with bark or weathered rattan (see options above). The weathered finish is applied in our workshops upon order, which adds about ten days to the lead time. A seat cushion can be ordered as an option.
The Marcel woven rattan armchair is suitable for both residential and commercial use (hotels, cafes, restaurants, etc.).

The Marcel woven rattan armchair: the forerunner of a dynasty

The Marcel woven rattan armchair is also known as the “grandfather chair,” primarily because its preferred users were the elderly, who in the past, in rural areas, had only this type of seat to rest in. However, one cannot help but see this as a subtle nod to the prolific lineage it has spawned. The first of its kind in its low-back version, the Marcel woven rattan armchair was very quickly adapted into a high-back version—also known as the “comfortable” rattan armchair—then into a two-seater rattan sofa, and a matching rattan chair. All these models have become generic items manufactured by rattan craftsmen throughout France, each with their own manufacturing variations, yet all remaining very faithful to the original design. Maison KOK is extremely proud to have been selling its Marcel woven rattan armchair for four generations! We have also reimagined the classic woven rattan armchair design by adapting it into a living room armchair—larger, lower, and fitted with a thick cushion—tailored to the ergonomics of a true modern living room.

The Marcel woven rattan armchair is not a garden chair

Its natural rattan frame—a solid wood that is more durable than most, yet still a natural material—is not designed to withstand prolonged exposure to the sun or the elements. Your woven rattan armchair can occasionally be taken outside on sunny days—preferably in the shade—but it must be brought indoors every evening. A woven rattan armchair is certainly not designed to remain outdoors, even under cover, during the winter.
