The Piroska wicker chair
The Piroska wicker chair is the heir to the great wickerwork tradition of Central Europe. This type of finely woven armchair with generous dimensions was once widespread throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire. A few craftsmen still perpetuate this typical skill by making several variants of this armchair. The Piroska version is the "full" woven version of the Lora armchair, which is "openwork" woven. The Piroska wicker armchair is a rather large armchair (see dimensions below), but it remains very light and easy to move. It is ideal for the veranda or the winter garden, but is also at home in the main living room as an armchair. The seat height of 42 cm makes it very accessible for people who have difficulty standing up. Matches the Laszlo and Colette tables.
Wicker, rattan, what's the difference?
Rattan is a tropical plant (85% from Indonesia) related to the palm family that produces a "cane" that is easy to bend (steam). Rattan allows for tighter curves and finer weaves than wicker, but being less rigid, it requires a heavier frame.
Wicker (another name for willow) grows easily throughout Europe. It does not require any plant protection products or fertilisers. The harvest is completely regenerated each year, so it is a very easily renewable resource. Peeled hot ("buff" wicker with natural copper tones) or cold ("white" wicker), it is most often presented untreated, the willow fibre leaving its smooth and satiny surface to appear "au naturel".
Characteristics and options
Overall dimensions: height 88 x width 68 x length 69, seat at 42cm. Weight 4.8 kg. Structure, netting, arches, braiding, and binding: natural buff wicker (copper tone). Made in Europe. The Piroska wicker chair is sold here without, but it is also available with its matching cushion in several fabric variants.
A wicker chair can be used on a veranda, in a winter garden, or outside in good weather and occasionally, but it cannot be considered as garden furniture. It is not made to withstand the elements, humidity, frost, or too much sun. The Piroska armchair is also hand-woven. Dimensional differences of 1 to 2 cm may occur, no two are exactly alike.
Maintenance: dust with a damp cloth, avoid commercial cleaning products. In case of heavy soiling, clean with a sponge and soap.
