The Lora willow armchair

The Lora willow chair is the heir to the great wickerwork tradition of Central Europe. This type of finely woven armchair with generous dimensions was once widespread throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire. A few craftsmen still perpetuate this typical know-how by making several versions of this armchair. The "Lora" version is without doubt the most emblematic: an openwork backrest and contours highlighted by a brown border. The Lora willow armchair is quite large (see dimensions below), but still very light and easy to move. It is ideal in the conservatory or in the winter garden, but it can also be used as an armchair in the main living room. The seat height of 42 cm makes it very accessible for people who have difficulty standing up. Matches the Laszlo and Colette tables.

Willow, rattan, what's the difference?

Rattan is a tropical plant (85% from Indonesia) related to the palm family that produces a "cane" that is easy to bend (steam). Rattan allows for tighter curves and finer weaves than willow, but being less rigid, it requires a heavier frame.

Willow grows easily throughout Europe. It does not require any plant protection products or fertilisers. The harvest is completely regenerated each year, so it is a very easily renewable resource. Peeled hot ("buff" willow with natural copper tones) or cold ("white" willow), it is most often presented untreated, the willow fibre leaving its smooth and satiny surface to appear "au naturel".

Characteristics and options

Overall dimensions: height 88 x width 68 x length 69, seat at 42 cm. Seat depth 48 cm, seat width 50 cm. Weight 4.2 kg. Structure, netting, arches, braiding and binding: natural buff willow (copper tone), dyed willow edging. Made in Europe. The Lora willow chair is sold here without the cushion, but it is also available with the matching cushion in several fabric variations.

A wicker chair can be used on a veranda, in a conservatory, or outdoors in good weather and occasionally, but it cannot be considered as garden furniture. It is not made to withstand bad weather, humidity, frost, or too long exposure to the sun. The Lora chair is also hand-woven. Dimensional differences of 1 to 2 cm may occur, no two are exactly alike.

Maintenance: dust with a damp cloth, avoid commercial cleaning products. In case of heavy soiling, clean with a sponge and soap.
